Steamboat Springs Resort
Reimagining Night Skiing
When Steamboat Springs set out to introduce night skiing, they needed a lighting solution that delivered exceptional visibility while protecting the surrounding environment. Snow-Bright™ made it possible, creating an unforgettable nighttime experience with minimal glare and virtually no light pollution.
The Challenge
Traditional lighting systems often create excessive glare, spill light into neighbouring areas, and make it difficult to achieve the level of visual clarity skiers need after dark. Steamboat needed a solution that would:
- Deliver outstanding visibility for skiers of all skill levels
- Minimise glare and light pollution
- Earn approval from local stakeholders and environmental agencies
- Create a safe, enjoyable night skiing experience
The Solution
After a live demonstration of Snow-Bright™ technology, Steamboat Springs received approval from the Town Council, nearby property owners, and the National Forest Service. The installation illuminated five trails spanning more than 1,100 vertical feet, including beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain, a terrain park, and a half-pipe.
Snow-Bright™’s proprietary optical technology delivers bright, uniform illumination with exceptional colour accuracy while dramatically reducing glare and unwanted light spill.
The Results
Today, Snow-Bright™ powers one of Steamboat Springs’ signature nighttime experiences, and the slopes are used for recreational skiing, race training, and competition.
The success of the original installation led Steamboat to expand Snow-Bright™ to its dedicated “All Out” race venue, which has hosted NCAA Championship competition. Racers report that nighttime visibility can feel superior to daytime conditions, because there are no harsh shadows or flat-light conditions caused by sun or cloud cover.

Snow King Mountain
Improving Visibility While Preserving the Environment
Snow King sought a more energy-efficient lighting system for race training and nighttime operations. Snow-Bright™ helped reduce energy consumption while meeting the environmental standards required for approval and grant funding.
The Challenge
Founded in 1939, Snow King is one of the oldest western ski areas and home to the steepest slope in the continental United States. Race training runs into the night. The mountain wanted to move off metal halide and high pressure sodium, but as a not-for-profit it needed grant funding to make the upgrade possible.
The Outcome
Snow-Bright™ was reviewed by the Land Steward and Staff Biologist for the Jackson Hole Land Trust, the Town Board, and the National Forest Service. After a field visit to the Steamboat Springs installation, the project was approved. It went on to receive Teton Conservation District grants alongside incentives from the local utility.

Powder Mountain
Expanding Night Operations Responsibly
Located within a sensitive natural landscape, Powder Mountain needed lighting that would enhance the guest experience without impacting neighbouring communities or wildlife. Snow-Bright™ provided a solution that balanced performance with environmental stewardship.
The Challenge
Powder Mountain sits between Weber and Cache counties and relies on natural snowfall within a variety of nature reserves. New management wanted to light the slopes served by the central lift, but the resort depends on expanding real estate and was concerned about environmental impact and disturbance to adjacent residential complexes.
The Outcome
Snow-Bright™ was selected and approved on the strength of the Jackson Hole and Steamboat Springs installations. The lighting has had no adverse impact on observed wildlife, and no objectionable encroachment on residential areas within viewing range of the mountain.
Campgaw Mountain
Meeting Dark Sky Requirements
Campgaw needed to expand its tubing park while complying with strict Dark Sky regulations. Snow-Bright™ delivered the visibility required for safe nighttime operations while keeping surrounding parkland naturally dark.
The Challenge
Campgaw sits inside a New Jersey State Park under strict light pollution guidelines, running on 1,000W metal halide and high pressure sodium. A new tubing area triggered regulations requiring one foot candle of emergency light across all access and egress areas for the magic carpet and lifts, powered by diesel generators. Meeting them conventionally would have meant a substantial investment in lighting and power.
The Outcome
Snow-Bright™ provided ample light on all entrances and exits to lifts and magic carpets, as well as the walkways to the snow venue areas. The Park Service and Town Council approved the fixtures after photometric layouts were submitted. The park beyond the tubing boundary remains completely dark and unaffected.
